A discussion with Catholic author Patrick Novecosky on his new book on the friendship between John Paul II and Mother Teresa
About this Event

Join us at the Shrine for a discussion with Patrick Novecosky, author of the new book Icons of Mercy: The Faith, Friendship, and Legacy of John Paul II and Mother Teresa. Participants will learn about the profound friendship between these two great saints of the twentieth century. Author Q&A and book signing to follow.
About the book:

In every age, God gives his Church special grace to respond to the world’s challenges with love and truth. In every generation, God combats the world’s evils with a more abundant good, raising up holy servants to speak a word that will rouse us.

The last century of human history has been so marked by evil and oppression that God saw fit to give us not one but two special agents of his unfathomable mercy: Pope St. John Paul II and St. Teresa of Calcutta.

In Icons of Mercy, journalist and papal scholar Patrick Novecosky explores the remarkable careers of these two great saints, chronicling not only their deeds and ideas but the ways in which, by God’s mysterious providence, their life works intertwined and built on each other’s.

It may be tempting to overlook the connection between these two hugely distinct figures: the charismatic, erudite Polish pope whose prolific writings and travels represented Catholicism for three decades, and the diminutive Albanian nun whose mighty deeds were devoted to hidden places where the poorest lived in squalor.

Yet the two were inextricably connected. In their Christ-centered friendship, in their shared zeal for souls, and above all in their witness of God’s light and love in the face of darkness and death, their combined witness changed the world. And their legacy continues to inspire and transform it.
