poem club
About this Event
Poem club is a sliding-scale evening of studying and writing poetry. The purpose of poem club is to provide a structured space for us to make contact with our inner poet -- whether we are brand new to poetry or write regularly. We'll read a few poems aloud to get inspired, and do some writing based on prompts -- which will be provided but certainly don't need to be followed. While it's true that poetry can save your life, at poem club it's also very fun.
Please bring a notebook and something to write with--and a friend.
As the Soapbox is currently urgently fundraising to support ADA-compliant renovations to their new studio space, donations with registration are encouraged, and merch supporting the fundraiser will be for sale during the workshop.
Pre-registration is encouraged due to limited number of stools in the room. If you require a chair with a back, please get in touch so we can reserve one, as many of our stools are backless.
About the instructor:
Basil (Gi) Lee (they/them) is a Riso printer, poet, librarian, and Soapbox board member. They have been reading, writing, and collecting poetry for a long time. For Basil, poetry is a place for resilience, survival, flourishing, and fun, all at once--and urgently. They WILL hold your hand through the discomfort of getting into poetry, no matter how scary you think it is. That's why they started poem club. Work and garden updates can be found at earth99language.substack.com.
