Bring the serenity of the outdoors inside! Join acclaimed artist Luvon Sheppard for an immersive, two-part Master Class designed to demystify the art of en plein air painting, using the fluid medium of watercolor.
Whether you wish to observe a master at work or dive hands-on into a step-by-step experience, this Master Class workshop offers a learning experience for artists of all levels.
Mr. Sheppard will guide you through the essential mechanics of capturing light, weather, and atmosphere without the unpredictable elements of working outdoors.
Program Schedule & Options
Saturday August 15th
Part 1: The Master Demonstration (Open Observation)
10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Description: This Demonstration is perfect for those looking for inspiration, theory, and professional insight. Watch Mr. Sheppard in action as he works on a watercolor painting from start to finish. He will talk about his composition choices, color palette mixing, water control, and how he translates a photographic landscape into a dynamic painting.
Audience members participating in the Demo-Only tier will exit at the conclusion of this segment.
Intermission / Studio Break
Time: 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Description: A 30-minute break to stretch, socialize, and prep workspace materials for the hands-on segment.
Light snacks and beverages will be provided
Part 2: Hands-On Master Class Workshop
Time: 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Description: A step-by-step experience on the art of painting plein air in watercolor by a master artist.
Exclusive to Full-Day participants. Transition from observer to creator. Mr. Sheppard will lead a step-by-step focusing on the foundational points of plein air composition in a comfortable indoor setting; you will receive feedback and instruction on capturing depth and atmospheric values in watercolor.
Part 3: Luvon Sheppard Exhibit Preview
Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

In the spirit of accessibility and to accommodate different learning styles and budgets, we offer two distinct registration tiers:
Tier 1: Demonstration Only (Observation) Cost: $35
Includes: Admission to the 1.5-hour live watercolor demonstration and Q&A session.
Tier 2: Full Master Class (Demo + Hands-On Workshop) Cost: $95
Includes: Priority seating for the morning demonstration and refreshments during break.

Open to the community 2:00 PM-4:00 PM. No registration necessary
Please note: **Limited Seating.
This workshop is inclusive for all skill levels and abilities. If you have played in watercolors, this experience will surely enhance your practice. If you have supplies, we encourage you to bring them! Stony Point Arts can also provide a beginner watercolor set, brushes, and 140# paper for use during the workshop upon advanced request. More info will be provided upon registration.
