Plein Air Painting Workship with Nelly Gonzalez Chan
Featuring Resident Artist Nelly Gonzalez-Chan
Step outside and paint beneath the shade of the Historic Sallier Oak!
Join Imperial Calcasieu Museum Resident Artist Nelly Gonzalez-Chan for a one-part acrylic painting workshop inspired by the historic chenier surrounding the Museum. Students will work from observation, taking advantage of the generous shade of the Sallier Oak while exploring the process of painting the landscape en plein air. Whether you’re new to painting outdoors or simply looking for a creative afternoon surrounded by nature and history, this workshop offers an opportunity to slow down, observe, and capture a special part of the Museum grounds.

All art supplies will be provided by the Museum! There’s no need to bring your own painting materials. Just come ready to create! We recommend wearing comfortable clothing suitable for working outdoors and bringing water to stay hydrated.
**Highlights: Community Exhibit Opportunity**
One of the special parts of this workshop is that your finished work can continue its journey beyond the classroom! Artwork created during the Still Life Oil Painting Workshop will have the opportunity to be featured in our 2027 Community Exhibit, celebrating the creativity of artists and students within our community. Students who would like to participate may leave their completed artwork with the Museum until the exhibit. We can’t wait to see how each artist interprets our autumn still life!
