About this Event
Following a degree at Yale she won a scholarship to do a Masters of Fine Art in Scriptwriting at the USC School of Dramatic Arts. Her TV script ‘Surfer Girls’ reached the quarter-finals of the 2021 WeScreenplay TV Writing Competition. Christina was also featured in Zack Calhoon’s celebrated ‘People you should know’ blog for her play ‘Water’s End’. Christina’s recent play ‘Michaela's Fluent Aphasia’ was developed at USC and premiered at their Los Angeles campus in an educational production (April ‘23). This was followed by a performance at The Lion & Unicorn Theatre in London and a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This has given Christina an opportunity to refine her writing and collect audience feedback. Audiences were highly responsive, calling this play a “polarising provocation” as it tackles issues of consent and ethical malpractice when communication is either withheld or complicated by a medical emergency. 'Michaela's Fluent Aphasia' will have two rehearsed readings at Kingdom Theatre, New York in March and November 2024. This is in celebration of Women’s History and Black History Month. Reviewers have called it "entertaining and dynamic" and “a poignant meditation on memory”. Christina is eager to develop this play further and is currently organising a regional tour of the UK. She hopes to use this as an opportunity to raise awareness of the play’s major themes: consent, abuse, and the debilitating condition of Fluent Aphasia.
