Synopsis: In this monologue, written entirely in verse and brimming with satire, wordplay, and metatheatrical twists, we witness how the protagonist’s fascination with the historical figure of Herostratus gradually turns into an obsession—driving him to commit a crime worthy of his infamous idol.

Herostratus, a shepherd of Ancient Greece, set fire to the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. After being arrested, interrogated, and tortured, he finally confessed the true reason behind his act: to achieve eternal fame.

In this monologue—crafted entirely in verse, and full of satire, word games, and metatheatrical tricks—we see the protagonist’s growing obsession with Herostratus, until it pushes him to mirror his idol’s notorious deed.

Leaping from one character to another, the author-performer mocks his own megalomania, inviting us to reflect on the prevailing narcissism of our time and on humankind’s intrinsic desire to leave a mark—whether through art, a craft, a revolution, or a criminal act.
