About this Event

In August, artist Katrina Cobain introduces The Plastic Bag Museum - an ongoing project that began in 2020 as an online performative museum exploring the social and design history of the humble carrier bag. Through an ever-growing collection gathered from collectors around the world, the project examines our relationships with everyday objects, revealing how even the most disposable items can carry stories of memory, identity and place.

For this special event, Katrina will present a Sauchiehall Street focused display from The Plastic Bag Museum, using bags from the collection to uncover the street's rich retail history and changing shopping culture. From iconic department stores to long lost local favourite, the talk offers a fascinating lens on one of Glasgow's most recognisable streets through the overlooked ephemera of everyday life.

Enjoy the exhibition on display in the space, the first physical presentation of The Plastic Bag Museum in Glasgow - described by Katrina as "the institution under your sink."

Your ticket includes the talk and a delicious bowl of soup from Sprigg, making for the perfect lunchtime opportunity to discover a different side of Sauchiehall Street's heritage.
