About this Event
Benki Piyãko is known across the world for his tireless efforts protecting and regenerating the Amazon rain forest. His approach to land protection and regeneration is informed by the millennial Ashaninka wisdom, an unbroken indigenous lineage that originates in the Peruvian Amazon. This wisdom holds important messages for our individual and collective relationship with nature in this time of environmental crisis.
Through this course we will learn about the Ashaninka’s relationship with nature by working alongside Benki and his family while connecting with the land of the Western Shoshone and Serrano peoples, near Joshua Tree. We will plant native species to the Mojave Desert, preserving the original biodiversity. This cultural exchange will also include lunch, music and storytelling.
All proceeds go to Benki’s project, the Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute.
