Pinatúbû: 35 Banuá na ing Mílábas.Mínáwá né pin wárí ing Kapampángan?
Dr. JC Gaillard, a Professor of Geography at Waipapa Taumata Rau (The University of Auckland) in New Zealand and and Research Fellow of the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute, specializing in disaser studies and developing participatory tools for engaging minority groups in disaster risk reduction (DDR), lived in Indung Kapampángan from the early 1990s to the mid-2000s to monitor the long term effects of the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo on the Kapampángan and Aytâ communities, especially with regards to their politics, economy, language, culture and sense of identity.
35 years after, while politicians are merely content with economic and infrastructure development, Prof. JC asks if the Kapampángan people were able to reclaim their indigenous Self and Identity, or has it been washed away by the volcanic mudflows that erased their communities?
Join us in our discussion at Kapé ding Pantas (Café Philosophique), an afternoon coffee discussion forum at the Sínúpan Singsing Center for Kapampángan Cultural Heritage on 2026 June 18, 1:30-4:30 PM. FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC.
