Ing Pámanyilab na ning Pisambán na ning MacabébéThe Burning of the Church of Macabébe
One of the darkest side of Philippine History that doesn't appear on your history books is the burning of the church of Macabébe on 1899 April 27 by the Philippine Republican Army headed by Emilio Aguinaldo with 300 people inside burned alive, not to mention the town's lockdown and the arrest of all its civilians regardless of age and gender at the beginning of the town's occupation by the Philippine Republic on 1898 June 16. Such inhumanity was kept hidden from the mainstream Filipino historical narrative. What was written however was a total demonization of the people of Macabébé, not just in Philippine History, but also in Philippine media as well.
In this lecture-forum, author and historian Dr. Ian Alfonso of the University of the Philippines will present to us the product of his two decades of research on the details of this sad chapter in history, the reasons why it happened, and the current steps being done to acknowledge it in the mainstream Philippine historical narrative.
On 2026 June 25, Thursday, 1:30-4:30 PM at the Sínúpan Singsing Center for Kapampángan Cultural Heritage, 2nd floor, Angeles City Library & Information Center. This lecture-forum is FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC.
