In this hands-on educational workshop, we’ll explore the fascinating intersection of science, medical history, and specimen preservation while working with real pig hearts preserved in classic apothecary-style jars.
During the class we will cover:
• The history of anatomical preservation and early medical collections
• Wet specimen science and preservation methods
• Safety procedures, ethics, and legal considerations
• Basic heart anatomy and function
• Proper specimen handling and display techniques
• The process of preparing and preserving a specimen for long-term display
Each participant will preserve and jar their own pig heart wet specimen to take home.
This workshop is perfect for lovers of oddities, anatomy, natural science, medical history, and gothic curiosities.
