About this Event
Pictures to Plates: Building Independence Through Visual Cooking
We’re excited to partner with Joy & Grow to offer a hands-on program that teaches teens with autism how to prepare simple, healthy meals using visual supports.
Through step-by-step picture recipes, hands-on practice, and kitchen-safety routines, participants build confidence, independence, and essential life skills in a supportive environment. Perfect for teens looking to develop daily cooking skills while having fun and learning!
The Goal is to help individuals and caregivers learn how simple visual supports can make daily routines more predictable, reduce anxiety, and build independence for individuals on the autism spectrum.
The workshop includes:
A brief introduction to visual schedules and why they support individuals with autism.
· Teaching participants how to understand and follow a visual cooking sequence.
· Guided practice using visual recipe cards (e.g., steps for making a simple snack).
· A short Q&A for parents, teens, and caregivers.
