𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: Considered by many critics to be Bresson’s masterpiece, PICKPOCKET is an expertly choreographed French crime thriller. Michel, played by non-professional actor Martin LaSalle, is a master thief who spends his days working the streets (and pockets) of Paris. As his thrill of the steal grows, so does his fear of getting caught. In French w/ subtitles.
𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿: Nicolas Estournel is a lecturer in the Department of French and Italian at Princeton University. He holds a Ph.D. in French from NYU. His research explores the concept of surface in postwar French literature and film. Drawing on contemporary theory, his work examines how surfaces—clothing, skin, screens—mediate perception and subjectivity.
