Our Prof Pick Series continues with a great Horror film from 1931, its the rarely screened Spanish-Language release of Drácula! 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: This Spanish-language production of the iconic Tod Browning monster classic was shot concurrently on the same sets (at night) and with virtually the same script. The only differences: this version features a Spanish-speaking cast and an additional 25 minutes. Based on Bram Stoker's novel, the film follows Drácula, a centuries-old vampire who sets his sights on a young woman named Eva. Considered by many as the superior version, DRÁCULA boasts better performances, camerawork, and more atmosphere than its American counterpart. In Spanish w/ subtitles.
𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿: Christopher Harris is Professor of Visual Arts in the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University. In fall 2025, he is teaching the class “Making the Vampire Film.” Harris makes films and video installations that read African American historiography through the poetics and aesthetics of experimental cinema. He has presented solo screenings of his films at the 2024 Whitney Biennial, Tate Modern, TIFF Lightbox, and the Museum of Modern Art, among many others. He also presented his films in a two-person screening with Su Friedrich at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris, and group screenings at the New York Film Festival, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and BlackStar Film Festival, among many others.
