An Introduction to the Art of Photography

This initial course aims to introduce beginners to the artistic and compositional considerations that are the basis of all great photos.

Requirements:
• An interest in photography
• A camera of some sort - mobile phone will do
• A basic understanding of how your camera works and how to take a photo
• Suitable outdoor wear to walk around the village

Administration:
• Refreshments and cakes are available in the museum tearoom to purchase between 12 and 4pm, plus shops within 200m of the museum where lunch can be purchased.
• All timings are approximate.

Lee grew up in Huddersfield, in the last days of the textile industry, and spent many of his childhood days playing amongst the derelict mills that remained. After travelling extensively with his camera for many years, he returned to his hometown, drawn back by the rugged Pennine landscape.
Lee’s images are the result of many hours researching 18th and 19th century maps and roaming the ancient footpaths, bridleways and turnpike roads, in all weathers, waiting patiently until light, wind and weather allow him to capture the right moment. Each image is presented as it was captured through his lens at that moment, a celebration of the majestic landscape of the North and its social, cultural and industrial heritage, as it was and as it remains now.
Lee has been invited to exhibit his work at numerous exhibitions and galleries up and down the country and is regularly invited to speak about his process as a photographer to professional art and photographic organisations.
Good photography requires patience and persistence as well as an understanding of the artistic and technical considerations necessary to capture inspirational images of our northern light, weather and landscape. This initial course aims to introduce participants to the artistic and compositional elements that are the basis of all great photos.
