Accredited Phlebotomy (Venepuncture) & Simulated Practice Training – Birmingham

Course Overview

At Passion4Training, we take pride in delivering high-quality, accredited Phlebotomy (Venepuncture) & Simulated Practice Training in small, focused groups. As an award-winning training provider recognised for excellence in Staff Training & Development in Birmingham, we limit each session up to a maximum of 6 learners to ensure a supportive, hands-on learning experience led by our experienced Phlebotomy Trainers.

This course is delivered by qualified healthcare professionals with extensive real-world experience. They guide learners through both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to perform phlebotomy safely and confidently, while being on hand to answer questions and provide tailored support throughout the training.

We are committed to delivering personalised, high-quality training in an engaging and supportive environment. Our small group sizes allow trainers to dedicate time to each learner, ensuring you receive the guidance and feedback needed to build your confidence and competence.

Phlebotomy and venepuncture are interrelated: this course teaches both the puncturing of a vein (venepuncture) and the collection of blood samples (phlebotomy)—essential skills in many healthcare roles.

Who Should Attend?

This accredited course is suitable for:

  • Beginners entering healthcare roles
  • Nurses, Senior Care Assistants, and Medical Staff
  • Healthcare professionals who are required to take blood samples as part of their role
  • Those looking to refresh their existing skills in line with current best practice and simulation-based training

Whether you are learning phlebotomy for the first time or updating your existing knowledge, this course provides the essential foundation for safe and effective practice.

What You'll Learn:
  • Introduction to Phlebotomy – Definitions, scope, and purpose
  • Legislation & Accountability – Record keeping, consent, and professional responsibility
  • Anatomy & Physiology – Understanding vein structure relevant to venepuncture
  • Vein Identification – Techniques for locating suitable veins in adults and children (12+)
  • Challenges in Practice – Common issues when locating veins
  • Managing Complications – Responding to anxiety, fainting, haematoma, or accidental arterial puncture
  • Order of Draw – Understanding correct collection sequencing
  • Health & Safety – Including hand hygiene, infection prevention, needle-stick injury protocols, and safe sharps disposal

Simulation Practice:

Participants will engage in hands-on simulation using phlebotomy training arms and pads, practising blood draw techniques in a safe, supervised environment.
You’ll also work with a variety of blood collection systems to familiarise yourself with different equipment types used in healthcare settings.

⚠️ Please note: This session does not assess or certify phlebotomy competency. After completing the course, you will receive a Phlebotomy Skills Workbook to take back to your workplace. You must complete this under the supervision of a qualified phlebotomy mentor, who will observe and assess your competency on real patients. Upon successful completion, you can email us your completed Phlebotomy Skills Workbook and you will receive a Certificate of Competence provided at no extra cost.
