Phenomenal Women: An Evening with Cara Charles-Barks MBE

Since 2018, series founder Theresa McDermott has invited extraordinary women, women who have achieved recognition and made a significant impact in their fields, to share their experiences, the challenges they've faced, and the lessons learned on their route to success.

These evenings are deliberately kept intimate, fostering the kind of open and honest conversation rarely found in larger settings. Guests leave not only inspired but genuinely connected to the speaker, to one another, and to the enduring spirit of phenomenal women everywhere.

Cara Charles-Barks is the Chief Executive Officer of BSW Hospitals Group — one of the most senior NHS leadership roles in the South West. A nurse by background with over 30 years' experience across private and public healthcare, Cara has been named one of the NHS's Top 50 Chief Executives six times.

In June 2019, she was awarded an MBE for inspirational and outstanding leadership — specifically for her role leading Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust through the Novichok incident. That same year, she was appointed Honorary Colonel of 243 Multi-Role Medical Regiment, part of the Army Reserve Medical Services.

Cara is also a visiting Professor at the University of the West of England's Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences.
