This event is at the beautiful Fellowship Hall at United Commons.
Take a seat or take the floor for a full evening of wild country, western swing, rockabilly and close harmony, presented by Oliver Swain and Victoria Honky Tonk.
At the centre of the night are Petunia & The Vipers, one of Canada’s most distinctive roots bands. Led by the wonderfully unclassifiable singer, songwriter and yodeller Petunia, the Vipers draw from hillbilly music, western swing, early jazz, rockabilly and country blues—then twist it all into something unmistakably their own. With a band of extraordinary veteran players, their concerts move easily from haunting ballads to feverish, dance-floor-ready swing.
Victoria’s Slim Sandy and Willa Mae bring deep roots and irresistible rhythm to the evening. A founding member of Ray Condo and the Hardrock Goners, Slim Sandy has spent more than four decades playing early country, blues, western swing and rockabilly. Together, Slim and Willa Mae have toured specialist festivals across Europe, Japan and North America, earning an international following for their joyful harmonies and raw hillbilly sound.
Opening the night is the debut performance of Tan Sedan, a new country harmony duo featuring Jamie Simard, formerly of the acclaimed Vancouver group Twin Bandit. Their intimate songs and closely blended voices offer a contemporary beginning to an evening grounded in country tradition.
Between sets, Victoria Honky Tonk will lead beginner-friendly two-step and line-dance lessons. No partner or previous experience is required—and dancing is entirely optional.
With concert seating and a full dance floor available throughout the evening, you’re welcome to settle in and enjoy three exceptional acts, learn a few steps, or spend the night moving between the two.
