Elevate your confidence and clinical skills in paediatric dentistry on day 2 of this 2-day hands-on course, designed for dental therapists
Whether you provide treatment through direct access or referral-based care, this course will equip you with practical, evidence-based techniques and protocols that you can immediately implement in clinical practice. With small-group teaching, you'll benefit from personalised support, guidance, and plenty of opportunities to refine your skills in a supportive learning environment.
This course covers core restorative procedures that are used in day to day general practice.
Day 1 MUST be completed before booking this course.
Day 2: Caries, Crowns and Clinical Confidence
Class I and II deciduous restorations:
- Cavity design principles
- Material selection.
- Matrix selection
- Composite restoration on deciduous second molars.
- GIC/RMGIC restoration.
Preformed Stainless Steel Crowns:
- Preformed stainless steel crown placement
- Placement of orthodontic separators.
- The Hall Technique, including SMART protocols.
Aims and Objectives:
Understand the role of dental therapists in the provision of paediatric dental therapy.
Select appropriate treatments for the prevention and treatment of caries in paediatric patients
Understand both atraumatic and operative caries management and their benefits and pitfalls.
Demonstrate and select appropriate isolation techniques for a variety of treatments including the use of rubber dam.
Demonstrate operative caries management techniques and select appropriate restorative materials.
Understand the SMART protocol for caries management.
Demonstrate correct selection and application of preformed stainless steel crowns, including the ‘Hall technique’.
Learning Outcomes
Be confident in the role of dental therapists in paediatric dentistry.
Gain skills in rubber dam placement and alternative isolation techniques for a variety of dental procedures.
Be confident in caries removal techniques.
Be able to select restorative materials confidently, for a variety of operative procedures.
Recall the indications and contraindications of stainless steel crowns.
Be confident in the selection and placement of preformed stainless steel crowns using The Hall Technique.

- Between two and four weeks before the course date: 50% refund.
- Less than two weeks before the course date: No refund will be issued.
