Pendarvis is the creation of business and life partners Bob Neal and Edgar Hellum. Bob and Edgar met in 1934 and began to rescue the 1840s stone and log cottages, one at a time, from demolition. Built by Cornish immigrants during the heyday of the lead mining era, the buildings were assigned Cornish language names by Bob and Edgar. The couple lived on the grounds and opened a restaurant serving Cornish food to sustain their preservation efforts. Their remarkable successโat the height of the Great Depression, no lessโlaunched the 20th century transformation of Mineral Point from a 19th century lead and zinc mining center into the vibrant hub for arts, preservation and tourism it is today.
