Where and when to meet us: Louis Sutter Playground in McLaren Park (1150 Wayland St at University) on the baseball field. Departure times are from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. We’ll send a reminder email to ticket buyers the week of the event that includes your exact start time and group assignment. Please be prepared to depart anytime between 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The route will take 6 to 7 hours to complete, depending on group pace.
How to get there and away:
Louis Sutter is accessible via public transit or bike share. The closest bus route is Muni’s 54 Felton bus line, which stops right on the edge of Louis Sutter. Other Muni bus lines that stop within several blocks of Louis Sutter are the 8 Bayshore, 9 San Bruno, 29 Sunset, 44 O’Shaughnessy, and 56 Rutland. The 54 Felton connects to BART at Balboa Park and Daly City stations, while the 44 O’Shaughnessy connects to BART at Glen Park station, making both buses a good transfer option for those traveling to or within San Francisco via the BART system. There is also a Bay Wheels bike share dock within walking distance of Louis Sutter.
This year’s route will end at Barebottle Brewing Company (located at 1525 Cortland Avenue, in Bernal Heights) for our after-walk party. Muni’s 24 Divisadero bus line runs in front of the brewery, and the 9 San Bruno, 23 Monterey, and 67 Bernal Heights bus lines stop within a few blocks of the brewery. The 9, 23, and 67 connect to the BART system, and the 24 connects to Muni Metro at Castro Street station.

What to bring: Wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes with sufficient tread for natural dirt paths. Dress in layers. Don’t forget sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and hiking poles if you have them; they may be helpful on the natural paths. IMPORTANT: Please bring a refillable water bottle. There are filling points in Louis Sutter Park, plus at parks and our snack station along the route. We’ll have snacks available, but feel free to bring along your favorite goodies.
Restrooms: Available at Louis Sutter Playground, plus three public restrooms along the route.
Dogs: We love our four-legged friends; they are welcome! Don’t forget their supplies (leash, water bowl, snacks, and cleanup bags). For their safety, please keep them leashed during the walk.
