Aimed at stakeholders who work at the intersection of sports and gambling harms who want to understand some of the latest research.
About this Event

This event brings together stakeholders who work in gambling harms, sports welfare or realted areas to discuss recently conducted research on the topic, to help translate the findings into practice and to shape the direction of future research.

The day will include research talks, round table discussions, lived experience speakers and involvement from a range of services in the region who work in the area of gambling harms.

We look forward to sharing some of the latest research developments and to some interesting and productive discssions.


Arrival and registration 09.30 - 10.00. Refreshments and lunch will be served on the day.


Dr Christopher Wilson is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Teesside University. His current work focuses on the cognitive neuroscience of risk and gambling. As the lead of the MIND Lab, he is the Principal Investigator on a UKRI/AHRC grant exploring gambling harm vulnerabilities and an Academic Forum for the Study of Gambling (AFSG) grant investigating sports engagement and gambling behaviour.

Dr Andrew Richarson is based at Newcastle University, serves as the Research Associate lead for the ADPH North East Gambling Related Harms Programme. His role involves evaluating health and well-being outcomes for the program across 12 North East authorities and leading research prioritisation for the regional network. He is currently working as Co-Investigator on the UKRI/AHRC analysis of compound vulnerabilities to gambling harm.

Ben Jones Director of Operations at Gambling Harms UK. He has worked across the full gambling support system, including recovery coaching, helpline delivery, senior management roles within the charity sector, lived experience advocacy, and the development and delivery of education programmes for children and young people.
