This regular group with Janet Goddard meets every month on the fourth Tuesday. Watch Janet here marking out a sample quilt.
Janet provides projects for you to work on, although you can work on your own piece with Janet's assistance.
Her projects are a mixture of simple blocks for those who are new to patchwork and some more tricky for the more experienced and a mixture of piecing and appliques. The aim is build up skills and learn new techniques.
Beginners welcome.
October 2024 - Zippy Pouches
Stitch a selection of useful pouches where the zips open on the diagonal, creating a distinctive feature. These are great little pouches for giving as gifts, for using up small amounts of fabric and are great for a multitude of purposes including storage for kindles and e-readers, stationery, books etc.
You will begin the day by stitching a medium sized pouch so that the class can work through the technique together. After you've made your first pouch, you will be given measurements for smaller and larger options. You will have time to make two or more pouches during the day.
November 2024 - Improv Christmas Tree
This is a small Christmas tree which is stitched in an improvisational way. It uses the techniques of raw edge applique and is quilted and appliqued at the same time using a walking foot. At 16" x 22" it is the perfect size for a seasonal wall hanging, cushion or table centre.
Janet has stitched her Christmas tree using just green and red fabric scraps but the project would work with any other Christmas fabric combination.
January and February 2025 - Scrappy Swirls
The blocks in this quilt are constructed using foundation paper piecing. Foundation paper piecing (FPP) is a very accurate form of patchwork and is perfect for blocks with intricate shapes. Fabrics are stitched to paper templates on the machine and then once the blocks are finished, the papers are removed. During the day we will work on swirly blocks and lots of tips and techniques will be given along the way.
Janet has made her quilt using fabric scraps but thinks it would work with most fabric combinations. Students will be provided with paper patterns for three blocks and a master for photocopying for further blocks.
The day runs from 10.00am - 4.00pm.
Along side her mid-week class, Janet also teaches stand-alone classes on a Saturday.
In addition to spending your time crafting, Tudor Rose Patchwork offers a special lunchtime menu at O For Coffee for students. You can choose from a selection of jacket potatoes, sandwiches, paninis, toasties and soups.
