In-Person Drum Workshop in Lynchburg – Open to All Skill LevelsJoin us for an exciting all-day drumming workshop, "Ballet Dunun and Dunun," taught by the talented Robin “Bountou” Leftwich of Happy Beat Drumming. This session will take place from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and is part of the Passport workshop series.
This workshop offers a supportive and inclusive space for drummers of all experience levels to deepen their understanding of dunun. Whether you're just beginning or have been playing for years, you'll have the opportunity to refine your technique and expand your rhythmic vocabulary. Instruction will cover traditional approaches as well as ballet and performance-style dunun playing, providing a well-rounded and enriching learning experience.
What to Expect:
In-depth study of djembe and dunun rhythms
Exploration of rhythm history and cultural context
Technique development and sound improvement
Rudiments and drills to build foundational skills
Introduction to reading and writing djembe and dunun notation
Engaging instruction and a supportive drumming community
Bring your dununs and djembe. All instruments should be ready to play.
The Passport series is designed to help drummers of all backgrounds improve their technique, learn new rhythms, and enjoy the joy of group drumming. Each session is packed with content and offers a unique, high-energy learning experience. Whether you're new to the series or a returning participant, you're welcome to jump in at any time.

The incredibly talented and fun Robin Bountourabi Leftwich from High Point, NC brings instruction and humor to every class. Bring your djembes and as many dununs as you want to use and carry. Some folks will bring ballet sets and more! These classes are always a blast and it's amazing how much can be learned in one day of unbelievable fun!
