Parsa's Pithas Toronto Book Launch (Free Event)
About this Event
Parsa's Pithas is a story about finding your own creative superpowers in unexpected places.
During this book launch designed for both children and their caregivers, we'll be doing a live reading of the book, getting experimental with a craft activity inspired by Bengali folk art, and engaging in community conversation. There will be scrumptious pithas, tea, and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and appreciate spring, creativity, diversity, family and community. Cannot wait to meet you all!
Here is a summary of the Parsa's Pithas:
When seven-year-old Parsa gives up on her painting, Ma invites her to help in the kitchen. Together, they prepare moong dhal nakshi pakhon pithas, a Bengali dessert to celebrate Pohela Boishakh, or Bengali New Year, which welcomes the arrival of spring. Parsa faces a series of obstacles while making the pithas. With Ma’s story about the rural women who started the tradition of nakshi pakhon pithas, Parsa is inspired to try again, adding her own spin to her pithas. Before Parsa and Ma head to the New Year festival with their scrumptious pithas, Parsa decides to try painting again. This time, she doesn’t hold herself back from taking risks, experimenting, and embracing her own unique vision. She persists at her craft using her newly found superpower.
