About this Event

The event transforms an on-street parking space into an extension of Montgomery Square Park with 2 Wish trees, as well as a Public Writing Room that invites people to write a love message to our city ,in reminiscing the site’s rich history as the former Postal Station K (1936) and Montgomery’s Tavern (landmark of upper Canada Rebellion led by Toronto's first mayor in 1837) The design features two "Wish Trees" where visitors post love letters, drawings, and memories addressed to the city.

This is part of the Global Park(ing) Day initiative that transform on-street parking space into a public space that bring back street life for people on Yonge Street.

What is Park(ing) Day?

Park(ing) Day is a global, public, participatory art project that takes place annually on the third weekend of September. Around the world, people temporarily repurpose on-street, boulevard or lot parking spaces and convert them into tiny parks and places for art, play, and activism.

How to Participate ?

Just show up at Montgomery Park (in front of the Stock TC grocer - a beautiful Art Deco building the facáde of which has been preserved through redevelopment), and write down your messages, wishes, memories and drawings to Toronto and share with us by displaying it on the wish trees.

Pens and notes will be provided.

There are plenty of seating and tables in the Montgomery Park next to the selected parking spot for you to sit down, write and enjoy the vibrant street life in midtown.

How long would it take to participate ?

It could take from 5 minutes to as long as you want to spend time on writing and express your affection to our city.

You are welcome to linger under the wish trees in the Parking Space that transform into Public Place for only once a year, and read notes written by others.

This is an initiative that supports Complete streets

The places we love to spend time are not parking lots or busy streets but rather green spaces, parks and nature. It’s time to create more liveable cities that are not only more enjoyable but safer and healthier for the people that live there.

I hope your stories could inspire others, to create a collective living memories through writing, and conversations to yourself or with others that once held on the streets, parks, cafés and places you love.
