Papercut Art Workshop: Explore Pattern, Culture, and Craft

Step into the intricate world of Chinese papercutting with renowned artist and educator Xin Song in this immersive workshop hosted by 7s Art. Whether you're a curious beginner or a creative spirit looking for inspiration, this hands-on class invites you to explore the deep cultural roots and expressive potential of papercut art.

You’ll begin with a journey through the history of Chinese papercutting, learning how this folk art has evolved across regions and centuries. Next, discover how contemporary artists are reinterpreting the tradition today—featuring a showcase of Xin Song’s acclaimed works that blend classical motifs with urban modernity.

Through live demonstrations and thoughtful guidance, you’ll learn the essential techniques of cutting, folding, and composition—then create your own papercut design to take home. As you work, you’ll explore the symbolism of patterns, the power of negative space, and the joy of mindful creation.

In the final portion of the workshop, you’ll engage in open discussion and reflection, sharing your thoughts on pattern design, its role in personal storytelling, and its relevance in contemporary life. 

*All materials are included, and participants are welcome to bring personal collage papers or magazines for added creative flair.

Info: The final stage of the class will be an open discussion. Share personal feelings during the paper-cutting process, thoughts on pattern design, and the connection between these patterns and contemporary life.
