Workshop Description
Learn the art of square-based garment construction by creating a 6-square top! This hands-on workshop will guide you through the innovative paper modeling technique—a risk-free way to understand garment construction before cutting into precious fabric.
Using paper scraps, you'll cut, fold, and tape your way to understanding how simple squares transform into wearable garments. We'll start by creating a paper model to visualize how the pieces fit together, then apply these techniques to square-cut fabric panels for a finished top you can take home.
All skill levels welcome! Beginners can create a simple 5-square top, while the main workshop focuses on the 6-square construction. Experienced sewists looking for an extra challenge can tackle the 7-square wrap top with its hidden pocket feature.

About the Artist
Mira Musank (she/her) is an interdisciplinary textile upcycling artist based in San Francisco Bay Area who transforms discarded textiles into one-of-a-kind garments for educational and professional showcases, including Climate Week events in SF, LA, and NYC. Passionate about sustainability in fashion, Mira inspires mindful textile consumption and promotes a 'waste not, wear more' ethos. Through focused community efforts, she has diverted more than 300 lbs. of discarded textiles from landfills. Her works have been published in global publications such as Cleanline (USA), Simply Sewing (UK), and Elle Canada.
Since Fall 2024, Mira has started a new initiative called Rethink the Runway, which aims to highlight the intersections of fashion, sustainability innovations, and environmental consciousness. With the vision of establishing the San Francisco Bay Area as a sustainable fashion capital, Rethink the Runway successfully launched in Spring 2025 with 7 public-facing community events during SF Climate Week, drawing 500+ attendees. The team is now preparing for their 2026 signature event.
