Shakespeare Regional Park is the most visited and accessible open sanctuary integrating conservation, recreation and farming in the Auckland Region. It provides a pest free habitat and a safe home for wildlife.
Plan for the day
Meeting place: Te Haruhi Bay Public Toilets, Shakespear Regional Park, Whangaparaoa, Auckland

Meeting time: 10:00 am
Distance: about 10km
Duration: About 3 hours including quick breaks + shared lunch after
Difficulty: Moderate (3 on a 1-5 scale with 5 being advanced/expert). Requires moderate level of fitness.
Weather: To be updated closer to the time.
Walk description
The plan is to start from the Te Haruhi Bay Public Toilets and link up Lookout Track, Heritage Trail and Tiritiri Track to create a big loop. We will have lunch at the Te Haruhi Bay. If we're lucky, we might catch a Mr. Whippy Ice Cream van at that point for a little cold treat, so bring some cash or your card.
Transport
Car pool fuel share is $15 cash, please pay directly to the driver. If you need a ride or are willing to give a ride, please comment below and indicate your location/space available. I can also offer a ride from the Hibiscus Coast Bus Station.
Cost
This is a free hike but a gold coin donation towards operating costs will be highly appreciated.
What to bring/wear:
- NO COTTON WEAR - jeans/denims/shirts/jumper please
- Trainers or a good pair of hiking shoes if it has been raining
- Snacks, packed lunch, food to share and at least 2L drink
- Personal FIRST AID KIT + medication
- Clothing suitable for Auckland winter
- Sun and rain protection

- Change of clothes and shoes if carpooling
- Cash if carpooling; Mr Whippy accepts card
- Picnic tables, chairs, picnic mats, umbrella etc.

Note: You can leave your shared lunch in the car for as long as it won't go off. Lunch spot is near the carpark. Help the park keep it pest free, please check your vehicle and belongings before you visit.
