hasłem Unreal Estate i poświęconej relacjom polsko-niemieckim opowiedzą:
● Felix Ackermann – profesor historii z Fernuniversität in Hagen
● Joanna Czudec – kierowniczka programowa Fundacji Współpracy Polsko-Niemieckiej,
● Anna Kwiatkowska – kierowniczka Zespołu Niemieckiego w Ośrodku Studiów Wschodnich,
● oraz Adam Leszczyński – Dyrektor Instytutu Myśli Politycznej im. Gabriela Narutowicza.
Debatę poprowadzi Bartosz Sadulski – redaktor naczelny magazynu „Herito” wydawanego przez Międzynarodowe Centrum Kultury w Krakowie.

Czy Europa Środkowa jeszcze istnieje? Region niegdyś rozumiany jako wspólnota doświadczenia coraz wyraźniej rozpada się na konkurujące narracje, a dawne języki opisu ustępują nowym, niepewnym i napiętym formom wyrazu. Pamięć nie jest tu stabilnym archiwum, lecz przestrzenią nieustannego przepisywania, w której figura Środkowoeuropejczyka wyłania się nie jako trwała tożsamość, lecz konstrukt definiowany perspektywą i momentem historycznym. Literatura, fotografia i sztuki wizualne nie tylko dokumentują przeszłość, ale ją współtworzą, ujawniając wyparte historie i podważając
instytucjonalne porządki, które próbują je stabilizować i katalogować.

Polska, Niemcy i relacje polsko-niemieckie w szerokim kontekście Europy Środkowej są głównymi tematami 23. edycji Miesiąca Fotografii w Krakowie. Pod hasłem „Unreal Estate” w
dniach 14 maja – 14 czerwca 2026 r., czekają na nas trzy wystawy programu głównego oraz szereg towarzyszących im wydarzeń – dyskusji, oprowadzań, spotkań i pokazów – z udziałem osób artystycznych i eksperckich. Tegoroczny program tworzy także sześć wystaw Sekcji ShowOFF, skierowanej do młodych talentów, oraz wystawa studentek i studentów polskich i niemieckich szkół artystycznych w ramach Sekcji FRINGE.
Miesiąc Fotografii w Krakowie to międzynarodowy festiwal fotograficzny organizowany przez Fundację Sztuk Wizualnych we współpracy z czołowymi krakowskimi i międzynarodowymi instytucjami kulturalnymi. Jego ambicją jest prezentowanie fotografii w jej aktualnych – społecznych, politycznych i historycznych – kontekstach oraz wprowadzanie ich do debaty
publicznej.
Debata w MCK inauguruje weekend otwarcia Miesiąca Fotografii (14-17 maja 2026).

📅On 14 May at 6.00 pm at the International Cultural Centre, the following speakers will discuss the theme of this year’s festival, taking place from 14 May to 14 June under the slogan "Unreal Estate" and dedicated to Polish-German relations:
● Felix Ackermann – Professor of History at the Fernuniversität in Hagen
● Joanna Czudec – Programme Manager at the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation
● Anna Kwiatkowska – Head of the German Department at the Centre for Eastern Studies,
● and Adam Leszczyński – Director of the Gabriel Narutowicz Institute of Political Thought.
The debate will be moderated by Bartosz Sadulski – Editor-in-Chief of “Herito” magazine.
Debate: Memory and its images. Where did the Central Europeans come from?
Does Central Europe still exist? A region once understood as a community of shared experience is increasingly fracturing into competing narratives, whilst the old languages of description are giving way to new, uncertain and tense forms of expression. Memory here is not a stable archive, but a space of constant rewriting, in which the figure of the Central European emerges not as a fixed identity, but as a construct defined by perspective and historical moment. Literature, photography and the visual arts not only document the past, but co-create it, revealing repressed histories and challenging the institutional orders that
seek to stabilise and catalogue them.

About the 23rd Kraków Photomonth
Poland, Germany, and Polish–German relations within the broader context of Central Europe will form the central focus of the 23rd Month of Photography in Krakow. Under the
title “Unreal Estate”, from 14 May to 14 June 2026, the program will include three exhibitions in the main programme, alongside a range of accompanying events – discussions, guided
tours, meetings and screenings – featuring artists and experts.
This year’s programme also features six exhibitions in the ShowOFF Section, aimed at young talents, and an exhibition
by students from Polish and German art schools as part of the FRINGE Section.
Krakow Photomonth is an international photography festival organised by the Foundation for the Visual Arts in collaboration with leading Krakow and international cultural institutions. Its ambition is to present photography within its current – social, political and historical – contexts and to bring these into the public debate.
The debate at the MCK marks the opening weekend of the Krakow Photomonth (14–17 May 2026). The weekend’s programme is available at:
