Palestinian dinner fundraiser for Gaza

Join us for a delicious Syrian/Palestinian dinner in support of the families Montanans for Palestine have been helping evacuate. This family has been Chefs Ahmad and Hayat We will serve a buffet-style dinner at Masala from 5-8 PM. Plates are $40 and all proceeds will be dedicated to evacuation efforts for Palestinians in Gaza.

As we celebrate the downfall of the Syrian regime with Syrian Missoulians, we remain in full solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza going through genocide. Israel continues its murderous expansionist campaign in Gaza, forcing Palestinians who want to escape to pay extremely high fees to a variety of actors in Gaza and in Egypt. Because the humanitarian system is beholden to the political interests of member states which do not support a formal evacuation process, no framework has been established for resettling Palestinians in Gaza. This means families must depend on transnational mutual aid efforts to raise the requisite money to relocate. When funds are limited, they must choose which family members to evacuate.

This is one of many such mutual aid efforts. Families MT4P is supporting include:

Reem’s Safi, the sister of Shahd Safi, a Palestinian journalist who has helped instruct Missoula high school students. Reem, her husband, and three children have been trapped in southern Gaza since the closure of the Rafah crossing in May.

The family of Ahmed Abu Metlaq, an interpreter an MT4P member met on a trip to Cairo. Ahmed’s family is still in Gaza, and their house was completely destroyed. They are now living in a tent, with winter coming on.

The family of Mariam Edwan, a young woman an MT4P member met on a trip to Cairo. Mariam was able to evacuate Gaza, but only with the clothes on her back. Her two brothers still live there and have recently been displaced from Khan Yunis to al-Mawasi, where they report “it is difficult to obtain the minimum requirements of life.”

The delicious menu includes:

• Spanagh w riz (spinach and meat stew served over rice; vegetarian option available)
• Fattoush salad
• Beetroot moutabal
• Fried cauliflour with tahini
• Sfouf (turmeric cake)
