• Your Father Was Born 100 Years Old and So Was the Nakba de (by) Razan Al-Salah

Elle baisse les yeux vers son fantôme virtuel, marqué d’un X. “Si je pouvais marcher, je l’aurais retrouvé, même s’il n’est plus ici.”, dit-elle, parlant de son fils. Oum Amin, une grand-mère palestinienne, retourne à Haïfa, sa ville natale, grâce à Google Maps Street View, la seule manière qu’elle a de revoir la Palestine. Le film se compose d’images de Google street view où résonnent une voix imaginaire dont elle a écrit le texte, celle de sa grand-mère qui n’a jamais pu revoir sa ville natale en Palestine. Cette mémoire inventée, contée en voix off, s’inscrit pourtant dans un contexte colonial réel. Dans ce paysage pixellisé, stroboscopique, apparaissent des images d’archives narrant la colonisation britannique et israélienne.

She looks down at her virtual ghost marked with an X. “If I were walking, I would have found it, even if it’s not here anymore.” Oum Amin, a Palestinian grandmother, returns to her hometown Haifa through Google Maps Streetview, today, the only way she can see Palestine. The film consists of images from Google Street View accompanied by an imaginary voiceover written by the artist, that of her grandmother who was never able to return to her hometown in Palestine. This invented memory, narrated in voiceover, is nevertheless set in a real colonial context. In this pixelated, stroboscopic landscape, archival images narrating British and Israeli colonization appear.

• A World Not Ours de (by) Mahdi Fleifel

Un récit autobiographique sur l’époque houleuse où le réalisateur, Mahdi Fleifel, et sa famille vivaient dans le camp de réfugiés libanais d’Ain al-Hilweh, un espace d’un kilomètre carré construit provisoirement en 1948 où continuent de vivre près de 70 000 personnes dans des conditions extrêmes. Mahdi et Abu Eyad n’ont pas tout à fait grandi ensemble. Mahdi a suivi sa famille au Danemark quand il avait 7 ans. Mais depuis, il retourne régulièrement dans ce camp libanais de Ain al-Hilweh où il est né, et où il retrouve Abu Eyad et ses amis. Et quand il s’agit de filmer le camp, les jeunes qui s’enflamment pour la coupe du monde de foot et Abu Eyad qui ne peut sortir du camp, Mahdi Fleifel semble réaliser alors qu’il ne fait pas là un simple journal intime, mais qu’il est le témoin d’une profonde mutation chez ces jeunes hommes en colère.

An autobiographic story on the turbulent years when filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel and his family were living in the Lebanese refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh. Occupying one square kilometre and built as a temporary camp in 1948, nearly 70,000 people continue to live there today in extreme conditions. Mahdi and Abu Eyad did not actually grow up together. Mahdi went to Denmark with his family when he was seven years old. But since then, he has made regular trips back to the Ain al-Hilweh camp where he finds Abu Eyad and his friends. And when filming the camp, the young football fans passionate about the World Cup, and Abu Eyad who cannot legally leave the camp, Mahdi Fleifel seems to realise that he is not just creating a personal diary, but that he is the witness of a deep transformation in these angry young men.
