LEARN ABOUT ARTIST INSTRUCTOR JAMES GRIFFIN
--------------------------------------------------------
James Griffin grew up internationally. He was born in Canada and lived in Lima, Peru, London, England and São Paulo, Brazil, as well as the USA. He received a BFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn NY, in 1972. Throughout his life , he has straddled different worlds and cultures, from pop culture, to abstract and realistic art. These varied influences come through in his paintings. He works primarily with realism but always with a consciousness of the abstract just beneath the surface.
James' art has been featured in museums and in numerous solo exhibitions and in galleries. He recently published his own book titled, The Road To Home, Art and Essays, which features 40 newsletters written during the last 10 years, along with 130 reproductions of his paintings. The book is a very intimate journey into how he approaches life and art.
James had an Art Exhibition at the William King Museum in Abingdon Virginia, titled, "A Tapestry of Movement" that showcased artwork spanning over 5 decades. This exhibition was on display from August until January 5th, 2025. From January 5 until March 7th, his work was featured in a Romance Book Cover Exhibition at the McDaniel College in Westminster Maryland titled "Romancing the Novel". You can see more of James' work at jamesgriffinstudio.com.
James was invited to teach this summer at the week long Common Ground on the Hill Art Festival at McDaniel College in Maryland. Click here to view his collection of beautiful artwork: https://www.griffinartgallery.net/collections/185174
