Painting Birds With Brusho Watercolor Powders with Donna Miller Haggerty

Paint beautiful birds in this exciting class that explores vibrant colors, textures and techniques specific to using Brusho, which is a Dry Watercolor paint. Brighten up your artwork with this unique, fun water-based medium! This is a great experience for all skill levels, no drawing skills required. Students will have a choice of birds to paint: Roosters, Parrots, Blue Birds and Wood Ducks. Adding Brusho to other subjects, as well as using it with other mixed media will be discussed. The teacher will provide the Brusho paints so come and join the fun! Please bring a snack for break time.
Donna Miller-Haggerty is an experienced instructor and a National Award-winning artist who has received several awards for her Brusho Paintings. She teaches in The East Bay Area, Los Angeles and Palm Desert. Her artwork is displayed in homes and galleries all over the United States.
Materials to bring:
Bring a snack for break time.
Teacher will provide Brusho paints and paper will be available to purchase.
BRUSHO WITH WATERCOLORS SUPPLY LIST:
Paint – Bring whatever tube watercolors you like to paint with. We will be using Brusho which is provided.
Brushes – Bring a set of watercolor brushes that has a good variety of sizes and shapes, have a fan and rigger brush in your collection.
Paper – Good paper is the most important material. Arches 140lb, is the most versatile. I buy them in pads, usually 9 x 12 and 12 x 16. I will have some to purchase if you need. Also another good option for Brusho artwork is Arches and Fabriano Hot Press. Large sheets may be cut to size.
Palette: It’s best to have one with separate wells from the mixing area and that is air-tight.
Art Boards: Any board to tape your paper onto will work as long as it’s waterproof. I like the plastic ones from Lowes/Home Depot. It’s good to have a couple sizes just a little larger that your paper.
Other items:
For drawing: 2B Derwent Water soluble pencil, Grey Faber-Castell kneaded eraser and a pencil sharpener (or whatever you have)
Liquid Masking fluid: Either Daniel Smith set or a Molotow pen or other that draws lines.
Other items: Water containers, painters’ tape, paper towels, a toothbrush, spray bottle, ruler, scissors and glue.
Optional:
Light Box, White charcoal pencil, Black Aquarelle Stabillo water soluble.
