Fibers Beyond the Frame: A Mixed-Media Adventure with Vicki Assegued

About this Event

Join talented and innovative Fiber Artist, Vicki Assegued, for this 3-day intensive workshop where you'll learn to wrap and highly decorate a frame with fibers and mixed media, to create a gorgeous and very unique piece of art to hang on the wall. All materials will be provided. All you need to bring is a pair of fabric scissors and a sewing needle and thread. No art experience is necessary and all levels are most welcome.

During this class, you'll begin by learning a variety of ways to wrap a frame with textiles and yarns. You'll then learn many exciting techniques for creating your own decorative elements to add to all sides of the frame, as well as the inside and beyond. (As an added bonus, all of the techniques you'll be learning, such as creating cordage, special tassels, stuffed pieces, and so much more, can also be applied to your future art projects).

You'll have access to a huge and beautiful collection of fabric, yarn, stuffing and mixed media objects to use freely on your piece, all provided by the instructor. These materials, along with the supportive guidance of your instructor, combined with your own inspiration and aesthetic, will lead to you creating a one-of-a-kind fabulous art piece that people will really notice.

Although the instructor will be supplying everything you need including the frame, many gorgeous fabrics, fibers and yarns, as well as various other mixed-media enhancements to add to your piece, you're most welcome to optionally bring fabrics, yarns, fibers and decorative objects and elements, from your own stash to add to your piece.

Materials provided by instructor: Frames, a wonderful variety of mixed media objects, fabric, yarn, stuffing.

Materials to bring: Scissors, Sewing needle and thread.

Optionally: Mixed media objects such as jewelry pieces, shells, beads, any small found objects, fabric scraps, used clothing, yarn, string, rope, etc.

Vicki’s approach to the fiber arts is innovative and experimental, leading to the wide variety of projects and techniques she has developed, resulting in gorgeous and unique art. She freely shares all of her methods with her students, encouraging and supporting them to apply the techniques in their individual style and aesthetic, leading to their own special and exciting outcomes.
