Painting As Practice - Development programme EVENINGS

A 6 Week Contemporary Painting & Visual Language Programme
A dynamic contemporary painting programme exploring colour, composition, atmosphere, gesture and creative process through immersive studio-based experimentation.
Hosted at The Stoneleigh Arms Arts Space in South Leamington Spa, Painting as Practice is designed for emerging artists, hobby artists, beginners and creatives wanting to develop a more contemporary and experimental approach to painting.
This is not a traditional step-by-step painting course. Instead, participants will work like contemporary artists: gathering ideas, experimenting rapidly, layering surfaces, disrupting compositions and developing an evolving body of work across six weeks.
Through large-scale studio exercises, artist-led provocations and reflective discussion, participants will explore the formal elements of painting — line, colour, shape, composition, space, tone and surface — through exciting and contemporary approaches to making.
Inspired by artists including Julie Mehretu, Amoako Boafo, Cecily Brown, Mickalene Thomas, Hurvin Anderson and Katharina Grosse, the programme encourages experimentation, risk-taking and the development of a personal visual language.

Participants will build an evolving "painting wall" throughout the programme — a growing collection of studies, fragments and paintings that develop week by week into a unique body of work.
