Paint Your Own Northwest Coast Native Art Sea Lion!
About this Event
Join us for a Unique Painting + Culture Experience with
Tlingit Tribal Member & Formline Artist Bill Pfeifer, Jr
Where you'll create your own traditional NW Coast Native Art Sea Lion (taan) on a red cedar plank.
Sea Lions (taans) symbolize endurance, steadfast physical and mental strength, and wealth or abundance in the Tlingit culture.
This is an art experience where you can have fun painting and encounter the rich connections of an ancient art form, which depicts animals, supernatural beings, and figures from oral histories.
What to Expect:
-A hands-on chance to learn technique, paint, ask Bill questions, and honor a living tradition.
-No painting experience is required; (Each panel is pre-engraved with Bill's formline design) all you need is the willingness to use your inner creativity and embrace the beauty of formline art!
-This unique art-making session invites you to encounter the visual language of the native peoples of the Northwest Coast of North America.
