Come and sit with me as we explore our relationship with pain — both physical and non-physical. Together, we’ll uncover how pain impacts our everyday lives, and how we can begin to shift that relationship with greater understanding and practical tools.
Key points about chronic pain
Chronic pain is pain that lasts longer than 3 months. It's also called persistent pain or long-term pain.
There may be many different biological mechanisms involved in chronic pain, but it's always a whole person experience.
About 1 in 5 New Zealanders live with chronic pain and nobody is affected in the same way.
Chronic pain intensity can range from mild to severe and can continue day after day or come and go.
Chronic pain is complex and can be difficult to treat. The aim of treatment is to find ways to support the person with pain and reduce the impact of the pain on your life.
The impact of chronic pain can also vary, but many people live well in the presence of their pain.
Chronic pain is a very common and debilitating condition, many people living with chronic pain already know, that there is a strong connection between pain and emotional well-being. We now have strong scientific evidence that people with chronic pain are significantly more likely to experience depression and anxiety. Experiencing depression or anxiety alongside chronic pain is a common and understandable reaction. It’s not a personal failing, but a natural response to ongoing suffering. I feel these open conversations about the emotional challenges of living with chronic pain, are so very important so people feel comfortable, safe and not so alone in a world where ofter we feel unheard and misunderstood.
My own journey with pain has been over 23 years long. I live with complex chronic pain, a musculoskeletal 'dis'order, cptsd and ongoing health challenges from a car accident years ago. Part of my path has been relearning basic motor functions, reshaping how my brain works, and navigating the daily realities of living in a body that carries the complexities of pain. I have undergone over 30 surgical procedures in the past 23 years, lived on and off many different medications especially cocktail mixes of opioids now realizing the irreversible damage that has been done to my neuropathic pathways. knowing we can in fact rewire the brain patterns through consistency and having access to the tools in our mind. the way we communicate with pain can change how pain communicates with us
Through this, I’ve come to understand the deep psychological, emotional, and physical effects of pain — and how holistically we can show up to meet it. It is my absolute passion and calling to hold space for others on this path and to share the tools that have supported me.
In this 4 hour workshop we will explore
The physiology of pain and its effects on the mind, body and energy system.
how trauma and pain stored shape our daily experience
Journaling, changing how we communicate with pain and mirror work for self reflection and release.
Body scanning techniques to gently soften tension
Tools such as self hypnosis for pain management
Closing with a sound jouney and guided meditation for deep integration and relaxation
all you need to bring is a journal, and a water bottle. as well as a blanket for the sound journey.
The exchange is $55
