Paid Youth Workforce Program: Publishing & Printing House Training

ASCENDtials is now enrolling for the Publishing & Printing House Workforce Development Program, a free paid training opportunity for youth ages 16–24 in San Diego.
This 12-week program helps young people build real, marketable skills in print design, graphic layout, zine-making, small-batch publishing, entrepreneurship, and creative production. Participants will work on real client orders, build a professional portfolio, and gain hands-on experience in a creative business environment.
Participants are paid $16/hour for eligible program work and production shifts.
This program is designed for youth who want to learn creative and professional skills, including students, recent graduates, young adults not currently in school or working, and youth looking for a supportive pathway into employment, entrepreneurship, or further training.
What participants will do:
- Learn print design, graphic layout, typography, and zine-making
- Create small-batch publications, posters, prints, apparel, and community materials
- Work on real client orders and ASCENDtials projects
- Build a professional portfolio
- Learn pricing, branding, customer service, and entrepreneurship
- Train in café, market booth, and social enterprise operations
- Earn $16/hour for eligible paid production work
Program details:
- Free to participate
- Open to youth ages 16–24
- 12-week cohort
- 2–3 sessions per week
- Tuesday and Thursday evenings, plus Saturday mornings
- Located in the District 4 / Downtown San Diego area
- Two cohorts available beginning late summer 2026
- Limited spots available
Who should apply:
This program is a good fit for youth who are interested in design, art, printing, publishing, entrepreneurship, social media, business, community work, or hands-on creative careers. No prior experience is required.
This program is funded by the County of San Diego District Attorney’s Community Grant Program.
