Our February 18th meeting (Thursday, 6pm-8pm) at Llewelyn's in Webster Groves features Augy Knickmeyer of Missouri Fly Life Guide Co., talking Ozark smallmouth. Augy guides these rivers for a living, and this is a nuts-and-bolts talk about water most of us can reach in under two hours — the Meramec basin and the Gasconade.

Augy will cover:
Where to go, and when — from April pre-spawn through the October transition
Reading water: riffles, runs, holes, and the structure worth working
Flies that produce, and how to fish them — nymphs, dredgers, streamers, and topwater
Approach and positioning, so you don't blow the shot before you make it
Rods, lines, and leader formulas he actually uses
The Missouri Smallmouth Alliance and the work being done to protect these fisheries
Trout season has a way of making us forget there's a world-class smallmouth fishery in our backyard. Come get a game plan for spring.
One note on location: we'll be in the McPherson Room, not the front room we've used for some of our past events. Head past the bar and to the right.
The room has its own cash bar and bartender, and we will also have plenty of food (catered by Llewelyn's). This is a free event, so bring a friend!
We'll start at 6pm — grab some food, a drink, and socialize for a bit — then Augy will present. Bring your questions.
