As part of Distilled: An Artist Series at Distillery 98, join Jonathan Kattine for a hands-on workshop focusing on creating places that feel dreamlike and just beyond reality, where memory, imagination, and landscape come together.
Step into a world where imagination and observation meet in this hands-on acrylic painting workshop. Guided by the artist, you'll create your own 12×12-inch dreamlike landscape while exploring techniques for painting places that feel just beyond reality—where memory, imagination, and nature come together.
Whether you're picking up a paintbrush for the first time or have years of experience, this workshop is designed to be fun, relaxed, and approachable. You'll receive step-by-step guidance throughout the process while still having the freedom to make your painting uniquely your own.
Each participant will receive:
A 12×12 canvas
Acrylic paints
Brushes
Palette and painting supplies
Step-by-step instruction
A finished painting to take home
No experience is necessary, and all materials are provided. Cocktails will be available for purchase throughout the workshop from the Distillery 98 tasting room. Whether you're coming with a friend, planning a creative date night, or simply looking to explore your artistic side, this workshop offers a welcoming space to create something entirely your own—somewhere that doesn't exist... yet.
Presented by Distillery 98 in collaboration with Emerald Coast Storytellers and in partnership with the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County.
Featured Artist / Instructor: Jonathan Kattine:
Jonathan Kattine is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Walton County, Florida, working across painting, photography, and sculptural mixed media. He received his BFA in Studio Art from the University of West Florida in 2020.
Kattine’s practice explores the space between observation, memory, and imagination. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, photography, dreams, and everyday encounters, he creates paintings that blur the boundaries between reality and fiction. His recent work combines simplified forms, symbolic imagery, and vibrant color to build dreamlike landscapes that feel both familiar and otherworldly, often existing within an evolving fictional universe of recurring characters and motifs.
Alongside these paintings, Kattine creates sculptural mixed-media works that merge painting and object-making through dimensional surfaces, found materials, and layered textures. Across his practice, he explores themes of memory, place, perception, and the search for meaning.
His fascination with the unknown, particularly outer space and imagined worlds, remains a recurring influence. These elements serve as metaphors for wonder, isolation, connection, and human experience, creating visual spaces that exist somewhere between dream and memory.
Kattine’s work has been exhibited in solo, duo, and group exhibitions across the United States and is held in private collections. He currently lives and works along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Learn more here.
