About this Event
On the evening of 13 November 2024, at 18:00, Freemasons' Hall will resonate with the splendid sounds of its magnificent Willis pipe organ, played by the renowned organist Katherine Dienes, also known as Katherine Dienes-Williams. Born in Wellington, New Zealand, on 10 January 1970, Katherine Dienes-Williams is a celebrated organist, conductor, and composer. Currently, she holds the prestigious position of Organist and Master of the Choristers at Guildford Cathedral, marking her as the first woman to occupy the most senior musical post in a Church of England cathedral. Her distinguished career is complemented by her family life; she is married to Patrick Williams, the librarian of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and they have a daughter, Hannah, who sang as a chorister at Guildford Cathedral.
The evening's performance will highlight the exquisite Willis pipe organ, a historical and auditory gem installed in 1933 by Henry Willis, the third generation in a celebrated family of organ builders. This remarkable instrument originally featured three manuals and 43 stops, comprising a total of approximately 2,220 pipes. It stands as the last grand organ constructed by the Willis firm, encapsulating the legacy of their craftsmanship.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of music and heritage, where Katherine Dienes-Williams will bring to life the rich tones and intricate melodies of this historic organ. This event promises to be a celebration of both musical excellence and historical significance, set within the elegant surroundings of Freemasons' Hall.
