Canon Anthony will be leading a Quiet Day at Foxhill on 24th June, exploring how the lives of Bernard Mizeki and Sadhu Sundar Singh can inspire us to live as a global and diverse community centred on Christ.
Bernard Mizeki and Sadhu Sundar Singh are two remarkable Christian figures from the global church whose lives embodied deep faith, cultural integration, and courageous witness. Each has a fascinating story.
Bernard Mizeki, born in Mozambique, became a follower of Jesus through the ministry of the Cowley Fathers in Cape Town. Gifted in languages, he was sent as a missionary to Zimbabwe, where he faithfully served the Shona people and was ultimately martyred for his faith.
Sadhu Sundar Singh, born into a Sikh family in Punjab, experienced a dramatic conversion at age 14 following a vision of Christ. He adopted the lifestyle of a sadhu - a wandering holy man - wearing traditional Indian clothing, travelling barefoot, and using the language, imagery, and rhythms of Indian spirituality to preach the gospel across India, Tibet, and beyond.
In this Retreat Day, Anthony will help us to explore the connections between art, literature, and people’s stories, as we consider how these two Ordinary Saints can inspire us to live as a global and diverse community centred on Christ.
