The Orange Shirt Walks will gather at Fusion Credit Union Stage at the Riverbank on Tuesday, September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.After the walk please stay for for a free lunch by In A Good Way of Brandon Friendship Centre, followed by Healing By The River, a showcase of Indigenous Traditions and Celebration.
The walk will begin at 12PM.
The Orange Shirt Walk will leave the Riverbank Discovery Centre grounds, head West on Kirkcaldy Drive, and cross 18th Street North onto Wokiksuye Canku/Grand Valley Road. Ending at the original site of Brandon's Residential School. All participants are to gather at the site with Sioux Valley Dakota Nation before re-tracing the route and returning to the Riverbank.
Please follow the direction of Brandon Police Service traffic officers, TRW2025 Volunteers and Coordinators, and the Search and Rescue team and always be aware of your surroundings and traffic. Give room for vehicles and buses that need to pass.
❗IMPORTANT PLEASE READ❗️Dress for the weather, wear good walking shoes, BRING WATER WITH YOU, and prepare for a long walk to the Brandon Residential School site. This walk is over 3km long to the site and another 3km walk back, so approximately an hour walk to the site and another hour back.❗️Be prepared to be outside for up to 3 hours on your feet.❗️
