Grab your binoculars and camera and join us for a relaxed afternoon of bird photography, birding, and nature watching at Irvine Regional Park!
Explore California’s oldest regional park with nature photographers Rita and Shari and Naturalist Mike as we welcome the return of fall migratory birds. Whether you’re an experienced birder, learning wildlife photography, or simply enjoy spending time outdoors, this easygoing walk is open to all experience levels.
We’ll stop frequently along the way to observe, identify, appreciate, and photograph native and migratory birds, listen for songs and calls, and share practical tips for spotting and photographing wildlife.
Irvine Regional Park includes a mix of woodland, grassland, coastal sage scrub, and riparian habitat, creating opportunities to see a wide variety of species. Depending on the day, we may encounter:
🪶 Acorn Woodpeckers
🪶 California Quail
🪶 Red-tailed Hawks
🪶 Cactus Wrens
🪶 White-crowned Sparrows
🪶 Yellow-rumped Warblers
🪶 Cedar Waxwings
🪶 And perhaps even Irvine Regional Park’s wild parrots!
Along the way, we’ll also learn how different bird species have adapted to the park’s habitats and why protecting connected open space matters for local wildlife.
Irvine Regional Park is connected to the approximately 400-acre wildlife corridor that No Orange Heights is working to preserve, making this a great place to see firsthand how parks, natural habitat, and wildlife corridors work together.
📸 PHOTOGRAPHY
Bring whatever you use! DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, compact cameras, and phone cameras are all welcome. Rita and Shari will be available to share photography tips along the way. No special equipment or photography experience is required.

DIFFICULTY
Approximately 1–2 miles round-trip with minimal elevation gain. Some uneven terrain. Mix of sun and shade.
