Optional Pre-Visit tour: Care Beyond the Boulevard
About this Event
The facility, operated by Care Beyond The Boulevard, supports people being discharged from area hospitals who need ongoing medical or mental health support and would otherwise be living on the street.
This facility, housed in a former hotel, allows for individuals to remain off the street while their health needs are met, thus reducing street homelessness. Individuals who stay here are successfully discharged to stable places 60% of the time. The facility will be in the early stages of doubling its capacity thanks to a City of Kansas City investment of more than $7 million (detailed here) which will also allow the facility to add 24/7 staff.
This tour is facilitated by Healthy Minds Policy Initiative, which has identified medical and behavioral health respite as a major gap in Tulsa’s ability to address issues at the intersection of street homelessness and mental illness. Due to capacity limitations, we will cap attendance at the first 30 people who register.
Travel & arrival instructions:
Take rideshare or drive to 5100 Linwood Blvd. Kansas City, MO. Parking is available nearby on-street. Staff will greet us and lead us on a tour. Expect about 15 minutes of travel time to and from downtown Kansas City, MO. Please note that I-70 is expected to be closed between downtown and the facility, so you will use alternative routes. Travel time is still estimated at 15 minutes.
