UMKC Dental Hygiene (DH) Shadowing
About this Event
The shadowing experience allows prospective students the opportunity to sit chair-side while a senior dental hygiene student treats patients.
To compensate for current demand, students may only shadow up to 2 times per semester.
Do not sign up for multiple shadowing dates, do not sign up for both morning and afternoon times.
Dress Code & Arrival
Students must arrive for shadowing by 9 am for the morning session. You will not be able to shadow if it is past 9 am when you arrive.
The dress code is business casual. No open-toed shoes or jeans are permitted. Socks are required. Long hair must be pulled back. Scrubs are also acceptable. Please do not wear strong smelling perfumes, colognes, lotions, etc. as these can cause headaches or allergic reactions for our patients.
Please cancel your shadowing appointment if you are exhibiting any symptoms of illness such as sneezing, coughing, etc, or have been in contact with someone diagnosed with Covid19 within the past 14 days.

When you arrive, please enter through the northeast doors of the building. These doors are located toward the back of the building if you are facing the main patient entrance, near the “First Choice Patient Parking” area on the map and the Children’s Mercy Emergency Services parking lot.
Once you reach the northeast doors, you will enter the code 108 to access the Office of Student Programs. After entering the building, take the elevator to the 4th floor and come to the Office of Student Programs, Room 420.
