Suggested Donation: $10.00 - $20.00 The Tibetan Monks of the historic Gaden Shartse monastery will perform the cleansing and blessing ceremony in preparation for the daily work on the sand mandala. The sand mandala is expertly laid down one grain of sand at a time during the duration of the monk's stay in Placerville.
We'll ring in the new year with the Yamantaka Sand Mandala. Yamantaka, also known as Vajrabhairava, is a wrathful manifestation of the Buddha of wisdom, Manjushri. The name means "conqueror of death" and he is a fierce deity practiced to overcome death, suffering, and ignorance. He is depicted as a powerful, buffalo-headed figure and is a central meditational deity in the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism.
This event is part of the Sacred Earth & Healing Arts of Tibet Tour offered by the Tibetian Buddhist Monks of Gaden Shartse Monastic University. See them at El Dorado Federated Church, 1051 Thompson Wy, Placerville CA from Jan. 2 - Jan. 10, 2026.
All proceeds benefit the monastery.
