About this Event

Stop by Battery Urban Farm on the Saturday mornings to learn about what we're growing, taste some produce, and maybe even get your hands dirty!

*In previous years we hosted monthly "Family Farm Volunteer Days," and we've adapted those events this year to allow for a looser schedule and wider participation from all ages.

Drop by whenever between 9:30am and 12:30pm to explore the farm through some of the following options:

  • Volunteer alongside our farmers to care for the plants
  • Take our "Have a taste!" tour and try some new produce
  • Explore soil in the Dig Zone
  • Meet wildlife up close in the flower garden and the worm compost
  • Go on a scavenger hunt
  • And more!

Tickets are not required to stop by, but it's helpful to us if you RSVP to let us know you plan to come. View the calendar by selecting "Check Availability" above, then choose the date you're interested in. Select the event time, choose your number of tickets, and click "Register" to complete your RSVP. If tickets are sold out but you'd still like to attend, you can still drop by! The event is open to all.

Please note:

  • We welcome anyone from the community to participate, including individuals and families.
  • Any children in attendance must be supervised by an adult chaperone at all times.
  • This is not a time to bring a big group like a school class or a birthday party.
  • If the space reaches capacity (unlikely), we may ask folks to wait for others to leave before entering.
  • Participants agree to follow all staff instructions and to refrain from picking any plants unless directed to by a staff member or "Have a taste!" sign.

Location: Meet at the entrance to The Battery Urban Farm, marked on this map. Please note that Maps applications often misplace the farm entrance, so you should use these coordinates to help bring you to the meeting spot. Please also note that the northern side of the park is currently under construction, so you will need to enter the park along State Street (the map linked above outlines areas blocked off by construction).

What to bring: We will provide gloves for anyone helping out with projects, though you're welcome to bring your own if you have them. We also encourage you to bring a reusable bag, in case we have herbs or flowers to send home with you at the end of your visit.

Weather: This program will occur light rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, we will update this section to alert everyone of cancelation or postponement, and will remove the date from the schedule.

After the event, we hope you will linger to enjoy the rest of the park, including our Playscape and vast perennial gardens. Learn more about The Battery at www.thebattery.org.

This event and all other free programming is funded by donations to The Battery Conservancy. Donate here!

COVID-19 Policy for Events:

  1. We encourage any event participants that are not vaccinated against COVID-19 to please wear a mask while participating in our public programs.
  2. We ask that participants stay home if feeling sick or if they've had a known COVID-19 exposure in the last 5 days.
