Experience three of Japan's most revered traditional arts in a single day: Kōdō (the Way of Incense), live Koto performance, and Tea Ceremony. Hosted at Kanso-an, the intimate cultural salon of Hokka Nichi Bei Kai in San Francisco.

Wonderful charitable opportunity to support Japanese traditional arts. Proceeds of this event will support preservation of Japanese culture, including maintenance of Kanso-an, one of the most authentic Tea Houses in California.

Precious aromatic woods from Southeast Asia are gently warmed over charcoal, and participants quietly "listen" to the rising fragrance — a meditative practice refined over centuries. Guests will experience "kumikō," a traditional incense-matching game.

Enjoy a specially crafted Japanese Kaiseki bento lunch by a local acclaimed chef from Sora, accompanied by a live koto performance.

Observe the preparation of both "koicha" (thick tea) and "usucha" (thin tea), savor matcha, and learn the history of the Way of Tea — tracing its connections to Zen, political power, and Japan's unique aesthetic of harmony.

Tatami seat $250 per person (10 seats available)

Bench seat $220 per person

*Tatami seating places you inside the tatami room (Rinwa-ken), where you'll have an unobstructed, up-close view of the teachers at work — the most immersive experience of the day. Note that this is floor seating with no chairs, so please choose accordingly. Bench seating is located just outside the tatami room with a bench seating, and you'll have the opportunity to step inside during the Kōdō demonstration. All guests must bring white socks or white tabi (split-toe socks).

The heart of Kōdō is the quiet appreciation of fragrance. Out of respect for all participants, please observe the following:

Please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, body spray, strongly scented hair products, or scented lotions on the day of the event. Unscented products are appreciated.

Guests entering the tatami room at Kanso-an must wear white socks or tabi (traditional Japanese split-toe socks). Please bring a pair with you.

• Please avoid wearing jeans or garments that may transfer dye onto the tatami.
• We kindly ask guests to avoid casual clothing such as T-shirts and shorts, as kōdō and the tea ceremony are traditional arts that value etiquette and formality.
• The kumikō experience includes writing with an ink brush.

香道、箏演奏、茶道という日本三大伝統文化を一日で体験できる、またとない機会です。 北加日米会が誇る「観桑庵（かんそうあん）」にて、日本から特別にお招きした師範の方々が皆さまをお迎えします。

こちらのイベントの収益は、アメリカ唯一の中村昌生先生が設計されたお茶室、「観桑庵」の管理・保護をはじめとするサンフランシスコにおける日本文化の伝承に役立たせていただきます。

東南アジア産の貴重な香木を炭で温め、立ち上る香りを静かに「聞く」伝統文化。 イベントでは「組香」を体験いただきます。

筝の生演奏とともに、サンフランシスコの人気レストラン「Sora」のシェフによる特製会席弁当をお楽しみいただきます。

濃茶と薄茶のお点前を拝見しながらお抹茶を堪能し、茶の湯に相関した禅の精神、政治的権力、日本独特の融合の美を歴史に沿って学びます。

※ 畳席のお客様は、香道の始まりより臨和軒にお上がりいただき、師範の御手元を間近にご覧いただけます。ベンチ席のお客様は臨和軒の外にご着席いただきますが、香道の一幕にて畳へお上がりいただく場面がございます。

当日は白足袋、または白いソックスをお持ちください。

香道は「香りを聞く」ことがメインの体験です。他の参加者の体験を妨げないよう、以下を必ずお守りください。

香水・コロン・ボディスプレー・強い香りの整髪料・ハンドクリーム等は当日のご使用をご遠慮ください。香りのない製品をご使用いただけると幸いです。

観桑庵の畳にお上がりいただく際は、白い靴下または足袋をご着用ください。

当日は必ずご持参ください。

• 畳への色移りを防ぐため、ジーンズや色落ちしやすい素材のお召し物はご遠慮ください。
• 香道や茶道は礼節を重んじる伝統文化です。Tシャツ、短パンなどラフな服装はお控えください。
• 「組香」では墨を使って文字を書く作業があります。
